Dr. Elizabeth M. Mears, Artistic Director
Dr. Elizabeth M. Mears became the Artistic Director of the Columbia Choral Society in 2016.
Dr. Mears received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Furman University. She also holds a Master of Music Education and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of South Carolina.
A Columbia native, Dr. Mears has participated in many aspects of the musical life of the city. She has been a teacher, an adjudicator and a clinician. She has sung with Colla Voce and has been a singer and soloist for Sandlapper Singers and the Columbia Choral Society.
An educator since 1983, Dr. Mears has worked with choirs of all ages. Her groups have performed in festivals at the state, national and international levels, and have consistently received superior ratings. Dr. Mears is currently the Choral Director at Richland Northeast High School where she oversees the vocal magnet program for the Palmetto Center for the Arts. Dr. Mears also serves as the Director of Music at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Mears is excited and honored to pick up the baton and lead the Columbia Choral Society.
