Dates and times for auditions are listed below.
Auditions for the 2008-2009 season will be held in the Music Suite on the
second floor of the First Baptist Church, Columbia. Use the rear entrance on
Washington Street between Sumter and Marion Streets. Dates and times are
Monday, August 11 from 6:00 till 8:00 PM
Monday, August 18 from 5:45 till 6:45 PM
Things to
know:
1. Please arrive early for your audition in
case we are ahead of schedule.
2. Prepare a solo of your choice. An art song, folk song, aria, or a hymn
would be appropriate. Be sure to
have copies of the music for the accompanist.
3. You will be asked to sing the tune of My
Country 'Tis of Thee. You will then be asked to sing your
vocal part (alto, tenor, etc.) of My Country 'Tis of Thee on "dah."
4. You will be vocalized using this pattern
(5-4-3-2-1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1) on "mee" to determine the extent of your vocal
range. The pattern will descend
and then ascend by half steps.
5. Finally you will be asked to sing your
part in a "sight-singing" exercise.
You will have time to become familiar with your part.
