75th
Anniversary Concert and Celebration!
Dear Choral
Friends,
Please plan on
joining us Sunday afternoon, May 21, 2006 as we conclude our 75th
anniversary season. The Choral
Society will be performing several larger works that I am sure you will
enjoy. The program begins with
American composer Randall ThompsonÕs The Peaceable Kingdom, conducted by the Choral Society's
Director Emeritus Guthrie Darr.
The work is a sequence of sacred choruses for unaccompanied voices on
prophecy texts from the book of Isaiah.
This is followed by Symphony of Psalms written by 20th century
Russian composer Igor Stravinsky.
This choral/orchestral work based on selections from the Psalms of David
was composed for the 50th anniversary (in 1930) of the Boston
Symphony Orchestra. Our program
concludes with the simple, yet exquisitely moving Requiem by French composer Gabriel Faurˇ.
The performance
will be held at St. PeterÕs Catholic Church (on Assembly St. beside the Post
Office) at 3:00 pm on Sunday, May 21st. Please email us or call (803)933-9060 for tickets or
additional information. I hope
that you will plan to attend and will bring your family and friends. We want to end our celebration in grand
style so after the concert we will be hosting a reception for you at the
Columbia Museum of Art on Main St.
Plan on walking over to the museum with us for a wonderful time of
relaxation and refreshment. I want
to meet you!
And of course,
we could not do any of this without the generous support of our patrons. The Choral Society is proud, and
grateful, to have that support, and we thank each person and company who has
contributed to our success. Now,
letÕs celebrate!
Best wishes,
Will Carswell,
Music Director
