Dr. William Carswell

Dr. William Carswell has submitted his resignation to the Board of the Columbia Choral Society. In his letter of resignation, he stated "It has been a pleasure to serve as Music Director of the Columbia Choral Society for the past five years. We have been able to make significant strides, both musically and organizationally during that time. But for me personally, it has been difficult to balance the time commitments and expanding responsibilities at Coker College with my ability to devote the necessary time and energy required for music preparation, rehearsals, performances, and organizational details of the Choral Society."

Members of the Society will miss Dr. Carswell's sure instinct for choral music, his mastery of the technical aspects of choral singing, and his exceptional ability to teach and encourage the singers. He was able to combine a seriousness of purpose with an informal style marked by a keen sense of humor in a way that inspired singers to their best efforts. Thank you Dr. Carswell for what you have given the Society during your years as Music Director.
